Entrepreneurs serving entrepreneurs.

Legacy Handoff was founded with a simple mission: to make selling a business seamless, rewarding, and legacy-driven.

Meet the founder

We've sat on both sides of the table.

Riggs Powell started Legacy Handoff after selling businesses of his own. He built a company and helped sell it for eight figures, has sold six businesses himself, and has bought businesses as well. He knows what it's like to hand over something you built from nothing, and what a seller needs from their broker, because he's been the seller.

We're still involved in acquisitions and running businesses today. That keeps us sharp on what buyers want, what lenders will finance, and what a company is really worth. When we represent you, we're not guessing what buyers want. We are one.

Our story

Legacy Handoff was founded by Riggs Powell. He's originally from California, played football at BYU, spent two years in Lyon, France, and came back to finish a finance degree and an MBA at the Marriott School. After several years in sales leadership at high-growth Utah companies, including VP of Sales and VP of Revenue roles, he built a company and helped sell it for eight figures, was involved with GetOutPass from the start and helped grow it, and went on to sell six businesses of his own and buy others along the way.

Selling those businesses taught us more than any textbook. We learned what it feels like to keep a sale secret from a team you care about, how badly the wrong buyer can waste your time, and how much the deal structure matters to what you actually take home. We also learned that most brokers had never been through it themselves.

So we started Legacy Handoff. The name is the point: your business is your life's work, and the sale should be a handoff to someone who'll carry it forward, not a liquidation. We're entrepreneurs serving entrepreneurs, and every deal should be a win-win.

Why we still buy and run businesses

We're still involved in acquisitions and running businesses today. That keeps us sharp on what buyers want, what lenders will finance, and what it takes to run a company day to day. When we tell a seller what a buyer will push back on, it's because we've pushed back on it ourselves.

How we work

Off the clock

Riggs has lived in Utah since 2015 and is married to a Pleasant Grove native. They have a daughter and a son. When he's not working on a deal he's playing beach volleyball or looking for waves.
